To Regain the Nature of Goodness
—— Review of ‘Oliver Twist'
Oliver Twist， one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens'， is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century。
The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London。
The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist， an orphan， who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime。 He suffered enormous pain， such as hunger， thirst， beating and abuse。 While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver， I was shocked by his sufferings。 I felt for the poor boy， but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill。 To my relief， as was written in all the best stories， the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end。 One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft， little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs。 Maylie and Rose and began a new life。 He went for walks with them， or Rose read to him， and he worked hard at his lessons。 He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty。
Learn to love and care
Here I am sitting on a couch alone， thinking about what I have just finished reading with tears of sadness filling my eyes and fire of indignation filling my heart， which revived my exhausted soul that has already been covered by the cruelty and the selfishness of the secular world for a long time。 It is truly what I felt after reading Oliver Twist， written by the prominent British author Charles Dickens。
The resonance between me and the book makes me feel not only the kindness and the wickedness of all the characters in the novel， but what this aloof society lacks， and what I lack deep inside。 These supreme resources I’m talking about right now are somewhat different from minerals， oil that we usually mention。 They’re abstract like feelings， and some kinds of spiritual stimulation that all of us desire anxiously from one another —— love and care。
Those charitable figures whom Dickens created in the novel are really what we need in life。 They showed love and care to others， just as the gentle rain from the sky fell upon the earth， which was carved into my heart deeply。
Mr。 Brownlow is one such person。
The other day he had one of his elaborate watches stolen by two skilled teenage thieves， Artful Dodger and Charley Bates， and thought naturally it was Oliver， who was an orphan and forced to live with a gang of thieves， that had done it because he was the only one near by after the theft had taken place。 Being wrathful， he caught Oliver， and sent him to the police station where the ill-tempered， unfair magistrates worked。 Fortunately for him， Oliver was proved innocent by one onlooker afterwards。 With sympathy， Mr。 Brownlow took the injured， poor Oliver to his own home。 There Oliver lived freely and gleefully for some months as if he were Mr。 Brownlow’s own son。 One day， however， Mr。 Brownlow asked Oliver to return some books to the bookseller and to send some money for the new books that he had already collected。 The thief Oliver once stayed with kidnapped him。 After that he disappeared in Mr。 Brownlow’s life。 Searching for a while， Mr。 Brownlow had to believe the fact that he had
run away with his money。 But dramatically， they came across each other again a few years later。 Without hesitation， Mr。 Brownlow took Oliver home for the second time not caring if he had done something evil。
Perhaps most of us would feel confused about Mr。 Brownlow’s reaction。 But as a matter of fact， this is just the lesson we should learn from him。 Jesus said in the Bible。 “Forgive not seven times， but seventy-times seven。” Why is that? Because forgiveness is our ability to remove negative thoughts and neutralize them so our energy may be spent on doing what we came here for。 We cannot move forward in our future if past issues cloud our thinking。 Stop put Mr。 Brownlow into the list of your models。 Always give people a second chance no matter what they might have done。 That’s also a substantial part of loving and caring others。
Then there are Mrs。 Maylie and Rose， Oliver’s other benefactors。 Maybe the reason they loved and cared Oliver was not because of forgiveness。 In my point of view， it was trust。 They had faith in Oliver when he was considered to be a filthy burglar who tried to break the front door of Maylie’s at midnight。 But this wasn’t how these two ladies saw the whole thing。 They denied Oliver’s crime immediately and listened attentively to Oliver’s own description of his miserable life。 They were deeply touched by Oliver’s strong perseverance and astonishing vitality。 Accordingly， they remedied Oliver’s body and heart and turned him into a different boy。 He began to wear appropriate and clean suits which were tailor-made for him and receive education。

I was very favor of a section of music in its balls. It’s pretty brisk, liked a wonderful song of a bird. Regarding to the characters, I liked Elizabeth, the he-ro-in-e,though I didn’t think she’s beautiful. But she’s smart. However, I didn’t pay much attention to the plot. I thought it’s so long that it made me impatient and bored. By now, I haven’t read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either. I owe it to my prejudice. In fact, I didn’t understand the story at that time. I didn’t know why it called Pride and Prejudice. Of course someone was pride, but I didn’t find where’ s the prejudice. I thought it’s normal, the way people treated each other in that. I considered prejudice would be very disgusting. But to the movie everthing was OK in my minds, except its length. Now, I think I have understood more about it. I’m a prejudiced person so I can’t find where’s wrong.
I merely like to do the things I like. Everytime I meet somebody or something,my thinking about he or it all depends on my foregone experience and my mood of the time.
As far as we can see， it is trust that helps us all live together without precaution。 Sometimes trust can even lead us to miracles， which we often expect to e about， so why not trust? Trust yourself， trust others， and you’ll salute miracles every single day。
In the novel， though the young Oliver again and again fell for conspiracies of those hideous thieves， who tried to torture Oliver’s body and poisoned Oliver’s heart intensely， he always lived on and tried hard to seek for his own life。 Then I realized what supported him all through were actually beliefs。 In most cases， what you believe is what you’ll bee。 Believe that you are unlimited， that you can do anything you mit to doing， and when you do， your acplishments will know no bounds。 You control your beliefs and that is how you ultimately control your life。 It’s all dictated by your attitude。
In the final analysis， love and care contain numerous forms， there are love of forgiveness， love of trust， etc。 but they all e from your beliefs in life。 When someone tells you he’s deceived you， forgive him anyway， when someone tells you what he’s done， trust him anyway， and when you face adversities while chasing your dreams， think about your beliefs， then what hinders you will bee a piece of cake in no time。
So find out “Olivers” in your life and do as Mr。 Brownlow and Mrs。 Maylie do: love them and care them， which cost nothing but save much。 They enrich those who receive， without impoverishing those who give。 They can be certain smallest words or actions， but the memory of them sometimes last forever。
Charles Dickens said:“Love makes the world go around。” These immortal words have inspired and will keep on inspiring us to chant the melody of love and to say the prayer of care forevermore。 Let us， therefore， enjoy life and treat other people lovingly。 These principles are the roots and foundations of beliefs supporting this article and our mission together。

In fact ,I have seen this movie before class.I frist met it when I was a senior middle school student.But I have get more impressions then before.
In the movie,the leading role of The Pursuit Of Happyiness,Jefferson's Declaration of independence words about happyiness kept recurring to Chris Gardner.Chris hardly work from everyday morning to night,but still couldn't make a charge.At last,his wife can't endured and left away,just leaving him and their five-year-old son.That is to say,Chris become a single father.
Even worse is,Chris no money to pay for the rent.And he was failed with his career.They become homeless.They slept in anywhere.But Chris never gave up,just for his son and his belief.He still strongly believed that happyiness would come one day if he worked hard enough.
At last of the film,Chris was succeed.But everyone know that too diffcult and hardly.
I think everyone know this is a inspired story.And I'm moved.But in this movie,the most impress me are two things about Chris's love to his son and his strong faith towards life.After that,I learn one thing that if a person has a strong faith in himself,nothing will impossible.
I read a famous American writer Ernest Hemingway's novel "the old man and the sea", very admire kept the will of the novel, he let me know how a man must have perseverance, can succeed. The man is a novel depicts a near the old fisherman, in a single out to sea fishing, caught a big fish, but pull not up. The old fisherman al with fish after a few days, found that this is a more than his several times as big marlin fishing boats, although knowing is hard to win, but still don't give up. Later and because the big marlin wound fish smell drew a few group of sharks rob food, but the old man still would not so give up, eventually beckoning, the big fish back to the fishing port, let the other fishermen to admire.

"The Little Prince" is a clear book, as clear as the water. It’s writes for adults, teenagers and children. It is a book about life and the lives of the fable. As the book said, the water on the heart is beneficial. And "Little Prince" can make people feel warm and fresh.
The story is about a boy. He lives on a small planet. He is the only person of the planet. He is a lonely prince. Fortunately, a beautiful rose came in his life. They loved each other. But a little argument separated them. He left the planet which he lives, starts traveling. He went to many planets and met many different people. He likes to watch the sunset when he was sad. He found that people wanted happiness, but always pushed away happiness rudely.
At last, he understood how to love each other. Love and life is a very
important thing. He is very regret. He wanted to return to the planet which he lives. But he didn’t know the road. He chose to drank snake venom end his life because he thought it will be able to cast off his bulky body to go back.
Every time, when I read "The Little Prince", I always moved about it. In real life, we often busy in the whole day, such as a fly without soul. The passage of time, childhood away, we grew up and took away a lot of memories, but we also have an oasis in the heart.
Because ‘The Little Prince’ story, we live in quiet, the heart has a hope and love, have touched on the responsibility of the life.
After reading Jane Eyre, I think Jane Eyre is a great woman. Through a serious of troublesome situations between Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester, the author set up a great female image before readers: insisting on maintaining an independent personality, pursuing individual freedom, advocating equality of life and being confident before hard conditions.
Her early life at Gateshead was terrible, everyone seems harsh on her. She survives her parents at an early age, and has to live with her ugly aunt and three cousins. She suffers large quantities of bad conditions that others may not experience. However, she does not give up in despair, she does not destroy herself mentally, instead, Jane Eyre is filled with unlimited confidence, and she is a strong spirit, a victory over the inner personality.
She is then forced to send to Lowood Institution, unfortunately, life there turns out to be terrible, too. She is still under physical and spiritual punishment. Mr Brocklehurst insults her to be a liar before all pupils and teachers. But there she meets one sincere friend Helen Burns and one sincere teacher Miss Temple. They always treat her well. She then behaves very well and get many people’s recognition. Six years later, she makes a teacher there.
After two years teaching life at Lowood Institution, she plans to leave there to pursuit her own life and happiness. She was in a position of governess through a letter from Thornfield. Her life was totally changed after that. There she met a lovely girl, Adele and her master, Mr. Rochester. She has a special feeling about them. With the development of the plots, Jane Eyre succeed a large sum of money from his uncle, and through all bitter things which was caused by Rochester’s wife in Thornfield, Jane Eyre and Mr.Rockester finally get married and lead an ideal life.
I think Jane Eyre is an autobiography of Charlotte Bronte. Although the story is made up, the heroine and people's life and the environment in the story were taken from the details of real people around and experience. Charlotte Bronte described a young girl’s struggling life to express her inner thought: everyone is equal regardless of his or her gender. The uniqueness of Jane Eyre is not only lies in its truth and the strong artistic appeal, but also lies in the particular female image. The love story of Rochester and Jane Eyre vividly shows the fire of passion and sincere heart strongly reveals their notions of love. She looks down upon the upper class who only use their power to do what they intend to do and laughs at their stupid to show her independent character and beauty dream.
In the actual fact, she wasn’t pretty, even herself knows that, and of course, the ordinary appearance make others have bad opinion on her, even her own aunt dislike her. And some others even thought that she was easy to look down upon and tease, but she was totally much more than “the plain and ugly tutor”. And as a little governess she said to her master: “Do you think my poor, obscure, plain, and little has led me to be a soulless and heartless person? You have done a wrong thing!”Underneath these lines sees the equality of human in Jane Eyre’s mind. She has affection towards her master, Mr. Rochester, but when she finds that he has already had a wife, she leaves him and her love place without consideration. Although God did not grant her a beauty and wealth person, instead, God gave her a kind mind and a thoughtful brain. Her idea of equality and self-respect impressed us extremely much and make us feel the power inside her small body.
In my mind, a person’s beauty on the face can only make others feel that he or she is attractive or charming, if his or her mind isn’t the same noble as the appearance, beauty of this kind cannot last for a long time, because other people will one day find that the beauty which had charmed them was only a superficial one, it’s not sincere, they will not like the person any more. For a long time, only a person’s great virtue, a noble soul, a beautiful heart can be called as an everlasting beauty, just as Albert Einstein said: “A person must be held accountable for their biological survival or all of the meaning or purpose, from an objective point of view, I think it is ridiculous. Everyone can have a certain ideal, which determines the ideal and his efforts to determine the direction. In this sense, I never easy and the enjoyment of life as an end in itself, the ethical basis of this, I call it the ideal pigsty. I lit up the road, and continue to give me new courage to face up to the pleasure of the ideal life is good and the beautiful and true. Jane Eyre’s story makes me thinking about our future life and I learn much from her experiences, I know everyone will have a better tomorrow if one holds his beliefs, regardless of one’s status and the situation he is in.
How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness。 I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty。 Although I don't think goodness is omnipotent， yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded。
For me， the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person。 Goodness is to humans what water is to fish。 He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person。 On the contrary， as the famous saying goes， ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose'， he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person。 People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done， and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself。
To my disappointment， nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity。 They look down on people's honesty and kindness， thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted。 As a result， they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others。 On the other hand， they attach importance to money and benefit。 In their opinion， money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility。 If they cannot get profit from showing their ‘kindness'， they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down。 They are one of the sorts that I really detest。
Francis Bacon said in his essay， ‘Goodness， of all virtues and dignities of the mind， is the greatest， being the character of the Deity， and without it， man is a busy， mischievous， wretched thing， no better than a kind of vermin。'
That is to say a person without goodness is destined to lose everything。 Therefore， I， a kind person， want to tell those 'vermin-to-be' to learn from the kind Oliver and regain the nature of goodness。
Not every story can become a classic, after watching Roman holiday", I learned a lot . the princess thirst for freedom.She met Jo Bradley in Rome, finally she had to leave him for her country.
Even the princess also have the life she didn't like, moreover us.
We are all desire freedom .Sometimes, too much work will make us feel tired, we can learn to relax ourselves and enjoy wonderful holidays but after the holidays, we also need to go back to our homes like the princess, and need to take on our responsibility.
On summer vacation of this year, I studied in novel " old man and sea " of Hemingway , famous writer of U.S.A. ,. I admire the old fisherman's will in the novel very much, he lets me understand that a person must have unremitting spirit, could succeed .
Man is not made for defeat,a man can be destroyed but he can not be defeated. Gently closing the book "the old man and the sea",I can't help thinking . In real life, encountering difficulty is unavoidable, the most important is to confront and have perseverance so that we can learn from failure.
