DREAM——A word that has changed the world

Hello, everybody !it is my great honor to be here to share my idea with you 。Today,I will talk something about DREAM——A word that has changed the world 。

“What do you think is the word that has really changed our world ”

When I was asked about this question for the first time ,without thinking it too much ,a word flash into my mind ——DREAM ,D-R-E-A-M.People more or less dream about different things ,to be a teacher ,a doctor ,a scientist ,a businessman and so on 。All these people who have dreams should be respected ,because Dreams make the world go around 。We grow great by our dreams. All big men are great dreamers in their youth.Everyone has a dream ,and everything starts as one’s daydream.

Martin Luther king had a dream. He desired for a future where blacks and whites would coexist harmoniously as equals.By speaking the way he did,he educated,he inspired,he informed not just the people there, but people throughout America and unborn generations. He pushed forward the pace of American black society towards the racial equality 。

Thomas Edison had a dream. He dreamed of a lamp that could be operated by electricity, began where he stood to put his dream into action, and despite more than ten thousand failures,he stood by that dream until he made it a physical reality! And today, his dream lights up the world at night.

Walt Disney had a dream. This,in itself, wasn't unusual -- he was always dreaming. He dreamed of making the first animated feature film, and of building an amusement park that parents could enjoy right along with their kids.Walt Disney empowered his dream and today,Disneyland,Disney world and Disney theme parks attract around the world thrill millions of visitors each and every year.

John F.kennedy had a dream. He wanted to land a man on the moon and return him safely to earth so as to restore faith in the American way of life.John F.kennedy empowered his dream and 8 years later Neil Armstrong stepped on the face of the moon. The moon landing certainly gave Americans new found confidence.

Dream --- A word that has changed the world Yes ,I would say so ,wouldn’t you

Youth is a special life relay station ,the growth with the worry ,the life feeling become aware happily with the dream ,collected a unique youth melody in here 。

We decide. We choose. And as we decide and choose,so are our lives formed. In the end, forming our own destiny is what ambition is about. And most importantly ,You are the one you choose to be.

It is easy to waste our lives ,our days ,our minutes 。It is easy to exist than living 。So hold fast to your dreams,For if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird,That cannot fly.Hold fast to your dreams,For when dreams go,life is a barren field,Frozen with snow.

My last holidays were my longest holidays, and i think that i learnt how to spendthe time.I enjoyed a lot with my friends, and my family, and i met new people too, because i was in different places during the summer, and i wanted to meet people everywhere. The first place i visited was calpe, a town in alicante, because i was invited for some days by a friendwho has a house there.I went with some friends, and we spent there just five days, but it was enough time to want to come back next summer! We stayed on the beach for hours, in the mornings, just lying and asleep, taking enough energy for the rest of the day and for the night! At night, we went out until next morning. We danced, met people, walked near the beach.。.while we watched the moon in , i went to paris with my parents and my sister.Actually, i did not go to paris, i went to disneyland. We stayed there for four days, and it was really unforgettable. When i saw the park, i opened my eyes the most i could and i did not close them until the night at the hotel.I felt like a little girl again. Finally, i was in salou. My parents looked for a really relaxing time, and we were on the beach for some days. There, we did not visit anything, we were there just to rest. After those days, we came , and, unfortunately, we had to start our routines again.

feeling of youth

no young man believes he shall ever die. it was a saying of my brother's, and a fine one. there is a feeling of eternity in youth, which makes us amend for everything. to be young is to be as one of the immortal gods. one half of time indeed is flown-the other half remains in store for us with all its countletreasures; for there is no line drawn, and we see no limit to our hopes and wishes. we make the coming age our own-

the vast, the unbounded prospect lies before us.

death. old age. are words without a meaning. that paby us like the idea air which we regard not. others may have undergone, or may still be liable to them-we "bear a charmed life“, which laughs to scorn all such sickly fancies. as in setting out on delightful journey, we strain our eager gaze forward-

bidding the lovely scenes at distance hail!

and see no end to the landscape, new objects presenting themselves as we advance; so, in the commencement of life, we set no bounds to our inclinations. nor to the unrestricted opportunities of gratifying them. we have as yet found no obstacle, no disposition to flag; and it seems that we can go on so forever. we look round in a new world, full of life, and motion, and ceaseleprogress; and feel in ourselves all the vigor and spirit to keep pace with it, and do not foresee from any present symptoms how we shall be left behind in the natural course of things, decline into old age, and drop into the grave. it is the simplicity, and as it were abstractedneof our feelings in youth, that (so to speak) identifies us with nature, and (our experience being slight and our passions strong) deludes us into a belief of being immortal like it. our short-lives connection with existence we fondly flatter ourselves, is an indissoluble and lasting union-a honeymoon that knows neither coldness, jar, nor separation. as infants smile and sleep, we are rocked in the cradle of our wayward fancies, and lulled into security by the roar of the universe around us0we quaff the cup of life with eager haste without draining it, instead of which it only overflows the more-objects prearound us, filling the mind with their magnitude and with the strong of desires that wait upon them, so that we have no room for the thoughts of death.

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen:

Today, it is my great honor to be here and talk about environment, I'll try my best! The title of my speech is" My future isn’t a dream”。

As the song goes “ My future isn’t a dream .” I love the song which brings me confidence when singing it every time . I believe that all our dreamscan come true if we have courage to pursue them .When I was young my father always asked me what I would be in the future . Sometimes I found it very hard to give a certain reply . “ I want to be a doctor .” “ I want to be a teacher .” and “ I ’d like to be a scientist !” Many of these answers are perhaps very funny . But I never think they are far away .

. As a student , I should study hard . My goal is to enter the best university for further study after middle school . I know it’s hard work , and I ’ll come across many difficulties . But no matter what they are , I’ll keep working on it and never give up . My teacher says there ’s only one kind of people that are truly successful : those who are brave enough . Even if I won’t achieve the goal , I have no regrets for what I have done , for I have struggled for my life .

That's all.Thank you very much!

Knowing the consequences of choice

Over the past spring festival, i got involved in a family dispute. right before i got home, four satellite channels of cctv were added to the 14 channels we had already had. in prime time at night, they all had interesting shows. therefore, the five of us-my parents, my sisters and i-had to argue over what to watch. finally, we agreed that we should watch the "most interesting" programme... if we

Could agree what that was.

However, all of us there remember that for a long time after we had tv, there were only one or two channels available. the increase in options reveals an important change in our life: the abundance of choice.

Fifteen years ago we all dressed in one style and in one colour. today, we select from a wide variety of designs and shades.

Fifteen years ago, we read few newspapers. today, we read english newspapers like the china daily and the 21st century, as well as various chinese newspapers.

Fifteen years ago, english majors took only courses in language and literature. today, we also study western culture, journalism, business communications, international relations, and computer science.

The emergence of choices marks the beginning of a new era in china's history; an era of diversity, of material and cultural richness, and an era of the rebirth of the chinese nation.

We enjoy the abundance of choice. but this has not come easily.

About 150 years ago, china was forced to open up its door by western canons and gunboats. it has been through the struggle and sacrifice of generations that we finally have gained the opportunity to choose for ourselves. the policy of reform and openness is the choice that has made all the difference.

Like others of my age, i'm too young to have experienced the time when the chinese people had no right to choose. however, as the next century draws near, it is time to ask: what does choice really mean to us young people?

Is choice a game that relies on chance or luck? is choice an empty promise that never materializes? or is choice a puzzle so difficult that we have to avoid it?

First, i would like to say: to choose means to claim opportunities.

I am a third-year english major. an important choice for me, of course, is what to do upon graduation. i can go to graduate school, at home or abroad. i can go to work as a teacher, a translator, a journalist, an editor and a diplomat. actually, the system of mutual selection has allowed me to approach almost every career opportunity in china.

Indeed, this is not going to be an easy choice. i would love to work in such big cities as beijing or shanghai or shenzhen. i would also love to return to my hometown, which is intimate, though slightly lagging in development. i would love to stay in the coastal area where life is exciting and fast-paced. i would also love to put down roots in central and western china, which is underdeveloped, but holds

Great potential.

All of these sound good. but they are only possibilities. to those of us who are bewildered at the abundance of opportunities, i would like to say: to choose means to accept challenge.

To us young people, challenge often emerges in the form of competition. in the next century, competition will not only come from other college graduates, but also from people of all ages and of all origins.

With increasing international exchanges, we have to face growing competition from the whole outside world. this is calling for a higher level of our personal development.

Fifteen years ago, the knowledge of a foreign language or of computer operation was considered merely an advantage. but today, with wider educational opportunities, this same knowledge has become essential to everyone.

Given this situation, even our smallest choices will require great wisdom and personal determination.

As we gain more initiative in choice making, the consequence of each choice also becomes more important.

As we gain more initiative in choice making, the consequence of each choice also becomes more important.

Nuclear power, for instance, may improve our quality of life. but it can also be used to damage the lives and possessions of millions.

Aconomic development has enriched our lives but brought with it serious harm to our air, water and health.

To those of us who are blind to the consequences of their choices, i would like to say, to choose means to take responsibility. when we are making choices for ourselves, we cannot casually say: "it's just my own business. " as policy makers of the next century, we cannot fail to see our responsibility to those who share the earth with us.

The traditional chinese culture teaches us to study hard and work hard so as to honor our family. to me, however, this family is not just the five of us who quarreled over television programmes. rather, it is the whole of the human family. as i am making my choices, i will not forget the smile of my teacher when i correctly spelled out the word "china" for the first time, i will not forget the happy faces of the boys and girls we helped to send back to school in the mountains of jiangxi province. i will not forget the tearful eyes of women and children in bosnia, chechnya and somali, where millions are suffering from war, famine or poverty.

All these people, known and unknown, make up our big human family. at different points, they came into my life and broaden my perspective. now as i am to make choices for myself, it is time to make efforts to improve their lives, because a world will benefit us all only if every one in it can lead a peaceful and prosperous life.

Weve all been taught that we should help people. It is the right thing to do and will make us popular with others. It may even win us favors in return. However, we must be realistic. We cant say yes to every request. If we did, we would fail or go crazy for sure. Sometimes we simply dont have the time to help. In this case, we must know how to say no politely.

When we need to say no, here is one method we can try. First, we should tell the truth. If we really cant do something, we should just say so. Second, we should remember to refuse requests politely. We must municate clearly, but must also be sincere and sympathetic. A true friend will understand. Finally, we must not feel guilty about saying no. Sometimes refusing others is the right thing to do. It can save ourselves, and them, a lot of trouble. In short, we cannot please everyone all the time. Refusing favors is a part of life.

We engineering students take it for granted that technology is changing incredibly fast。 We are thinking nervously and seriously whether our colleges are failing to provide a foundation in the skills currently needed in industry。 Take my major telecommunications for example。 Scientists say that 21st century is a biomedical time, not an electrical time。 But without the help of electronic data processing and transformation, biomedical technology alone cannot go too far。 Funny enough, the word biomedical itself is just a combination of two disciplines。 So the interdisciplinary exploitation serves as the critical part for our electric and electronics world as well as any other fields to find new way of being。

But the power of knowledge collaboration is certainly not restricted to science and engineering; it is in the full community of learning。 Walking around campus I absorbed a reality that there is a seamless web between students from different professional backgrounds。 The engineering students are discussing animatedly in a philosophy lecture, speaking passionately in the public speaking club, and looking for sparkling ideas from learning history and arts。 How wonderful that is! That, ladies and gentleman, is just a significant step forward to be well—rounded because once we jump out of the circle we can see the bigger picture。

My friends, I hope that you have already got what university is all about。 Please let me end my speech with the Nobel Prize winner Li Zhengdao’s words: “The realization of the perfect combination of science and engineering, science and arts, technology and humanity, is the greatest symbol of a university’s success。” Thank you。

As the saying goes, "brothers, satisfy broken heart." A man's strength is too small, only have cooperation, can achieve. Man is standing in the far out at sea coast mast-head can have a ship, the need to promote, One mountain is in the far east has whose shimmering rays of the sun, need a set, One of the force is restless in its mother's womb, the maturation of maternal infant to nourish.

Cooperation is the path to success to mark. Danish astronomer with 30 years DiGu observation of the planet, precision accumulated extensive accurate and reliable information. But no good theoretical thinking and scientific arrangement, not a great discovery. Before his death DiGu will material to assistant Kepler, and told him the material preparation. DiGu accurate observation and the profound study of Kepler, combining finally leads the movement of the planets of the three laws of motion of the object, uncover secret. Without cooperation, the three laws of motion to the planet?

Cooperation is spread to the foundation of success. The train is bound for successful cooperation. In 1935, MAO zedong not before the zunyi meeting presided over the job. The long march in zunyi meeting, held in zhou enlai, and WangJiaXiang insistence, established MAO zedong in the party's leadership, the new army under the leadership of the CPC in MAO zedong, seeking truth from facts, solidarity and cooperation, the battle is one by one. Since then, the communist party of China, the ideal ship across the narrow waterway, light avenue. Without cooperation, which to historic transition?

BC, chu, zhao 318, wei, Korea, yan five components of the coalition against aggression, qin, however, due to the heart, want to own interests, not very good cooperation, resulting in failure. If at all in the world cooperate, concentrated force, material and financial resources, is certain to beat the qin dynasty. Say so, with cooperation, can achieve.

Let the flower of success in the cooperation in the soil in the spring, the cooperation in the spring, let the success of spewing eagles flying in the sky in the cooperation. Let us have cooperation, hug success!

Happy people die younger than their more reserved peers, study finds People who are too happy die younger than their more downbeat peers, claims new research.

A study which followed children from the 1920s to old age showed that people who were rated 'highly cheerful' by teachers at school died younger than their more reserved classmates.

This was because people who were too happy were more likely to suffer from mental disorders such as bipolar, making them less fearful and more likely to take risks that increase the chance of having a fatal accident.

Being too cheerful — especially at inappropriate times — can also rouse anger in others, increasing the risk of a person coming to harm.

Researchers from a variety of universities worldwide also discovered that trying too hard to be happy often ended up leaving people feeling more depressed than before, as putting an effort into improving their mood often left people feeling cheated.

And magazine articles offering tips on how to be happy were also blamed for worsening depression.

One study saw participants asked to read an article offering ways to improve your mood, and follow one of the tips to see how effective it was.

Participants then took the advice offered — such as watching an upbeat film — often concentrated too hard on trying to improve their mood rather than letting it lift naturally.

This meant that by the time the film had ended, they often felt angry and cheated by the advice given, putting them in a far worse mood than when they had started watching.

However, results of the study, published in the journal Perspectives on Psychological Science, revealed that the key to true happiness was much more simple: meaningful relationships with friends and family members.

Study co—author Professor June Gruber, from the department of psychology at Yale University in the United States, said of people who actively tried to be happy: 'When you're doing it with the motivation or expectation that these things ought to make you happy, that can lead to disappointment and decreased happiness.

'The strongest predictor of happiness is not money, or external recognition through success or fame, It's having meaningful social relationships.

She added: 'That means the best way to increase your happiness is to stop worrying about being happy and instead divert your energy to nurturing the social bonds you have with other people.

In the 16th century, people celebrated New Year's Day from March 25 to April 1. In the mid—1560s King Charles IX changed it from March 25 to January 1. But some people still celebrated in on April 1, so others called them April Fools.

Each country celebrates April Fools' Day differently. In France, people call the April Fools “April Fish”。 They tape a paper fish to their friends' backs to fool them. When he or she finds this , they shout “April Fish!”

In England, people play jokes only in the morning. You are a “noodle” if someone fools you. In Scotland, April Fools' Day is 48 hours long. They call an April Fool “April Gowk”。 Gowk is another name for a cuckoo bird.

In the America, people play small jokes on their friends and any other people on the first of Aprol. They may point down to your shoe and say, “ Your shoelace is untied.” If you believe them and look down to see, you are an April Fool then.
