There was once upon a time an old goat who had seven little kids, and loved them with all the love of a mother for her children. One day she wanted to go into the forest andfetch some food. So she called all seven to her and said, Dear children, I have to go into the forest, be on your guard against the wolf; if he comes in, he will devour you all -- skin, hair, and all. The wretch often disguises himself, but you will know him at once by his rough voice and his black feet. The kids said, Dear mother, we will take good care of ourselves; you may go away without any anxiety. Then the old one bleated, and went on her way with an easy mind.
It was not long before some one knocked at the house-door and called, Open the door, dear children; your mother is here, and has brought something back with her for each of you. But the little kids knew that it was the wolf, by the rough voice; We will not open the door, cried they, thou art not our mother. She has a soft, pleasant voice, but thy voice is rough; thou art the wolf! Then the wolf went away to a shopkeeper and bought himself a great lump of chalk, ate this and made his voice soft with it. Then he came back, knocked at the door of the house, and cried, Open the door, dear children, your mother is here and has brought something back with her for each of you. But the wolf had laid his black paws against the window, and the children saw them and cried, We will not open the door, our mother has not black feet like thee; thou art the wolf. Then the wolf ran to a baker and said, I have hurt my feet, rub some dough over them for me. And when the baker had rubbed his feet over, he ran to the miller and said, Strew some white meal over my feet for me. The miller thought to himself, The wolf wants todeceive someone, and refused; but the wolf said, If thou will not do it, I will devourthee. Then the miller was afraid, and made his paws white for him. Truly men are like that.
So now the wretch went for the third time to the house-door, knocked at it and said, Open the door for me, children, your dear little mother has come home, and has brought every one of you something back from the forest with her. The little kids cried, First show us thy paws that we may know if thou art our dear little mother. Then he put his paws in through the window, and when the kids saw that they were white, they believed that all he said was true, and opened the door. But who should come in but the wolf! They were terrified and wanted to hide themselves. One sprang under the table, the second into the bed, the third into the stove, the fourth into the kitchen, the fifth into the cupboard, the sixth under the washing-bowl, and the seventh into the clock-case. But the wolf found them all, and used no great ceremony; one after the other he swallowed them down his throat. The youngest, who was in the clock-case, was the only one he did not find. When the wolf had satisfied his appetite he took himself off, laid himself down under a tree in the green meadow outside, and began to sleep.
Soon afterwards the old goat came home again from the forest. Ah! What a sight she saw there! The house-door stood wide open. The table, chairs, and benches were thrown down, the washing-bowl lay broken to pieces, and the quilts and pillows were pulled off the bed. She sought her children, but they were nowhere to be found. She called them one after another by name, but no one answered. At last, when she came to the youngest, a soft voice cried, Dear mother, I am in the clock-case. She took the kid out, and it told her that the wolf had come and had eaten all the others. Then you may imagine how she wept over her poor children.
At length in her grief she went out, and the youngest kid ran with her. When they came to the meadow, there lay the wolf by the tree and snored so loud that the branches shook. She looked at him on every side and saw that something was moving and struggling in his gorged belly. Ah, heavens, said she, is it possible that my poor children whom he has swallowed down for his supper, can be still alive? Then the kid had to run home and fetch scissors, and a needle and thread, and the goat cut open the monster's stomach, and hardly had she make one cut, than one little kid thrust its head out, and when she cut farther, all six sprang out one after another, and were all still alive, and had suffered no injury whatever, for in his greediness the monster had swallowed them down whole. What rejoicing there was! They embraced their dear mother, and jumped like a sailor at his wedding. The mother, however, said, Now go and look for some big stones, and we will fill the wicked beast's stomach with them while he is still asleep. Then the seven kids dragged the stones thither with all speed, and put as many of them into his stomach as they could get in; and the mother sewed him up again in the greatest haste, so that he was not aware of anything and never once stirred.
When the wolf at length had had his sleep out, he got on his legs, and as the stones in his stomach made him very thirsty, he wanted to go to a well to drink. But when he began to walk and move about, the stones in his stomach knocked against each other and rattled. Then cried he,
What rumbles and tumbles
Against my poor bones?
I thought 't was six kids,
But it's naught but big stones.
And when he got to the well and stooped over the water and was just about to drink, the heavy stones made him fall in, and there was no help, but he had to drownmiserably. When the seven kids saw that, they came running to the spot and cried aloud, The wolf is dead! The wolf is dead! and danced for joy round about the well with their mother.
We care about ourselves more and more. We eat whats right and we exxercise. We absolutely embrace health. However, it is not only our health that we should embrace, though many of us do not realize that. Many of us do not realize that the earth we live on is a fragile being that needs to be protected like a new born child.
We probably havent even noticed, that with each stride the civilization takes toward the ultimate development, more burdens are added to the earth that provides us with essentials to live. The decrease in air quality, the climate change, medical waste, noise and water pollution, and even food poisoning has added to the list of growing concerns to our living environment. Human are not supernatural beings, thus these problems have affected pretty much every matter. We upgrade gadgets and make full use of newer technologies, but we pay for the consequences in turn. For instance, the advent of batteries and machinery has caused million tons of water become toxxic and undrinkable, further aggravating the already serious condition of water shortage and poisoning in several countries. The over-production and over-use of transportation vehicles and electricity has contributed to the Global Warming and caused myriads of species to disappear from the face of the earth due to home-loss and temperature change. We have brought wonders to the world, but have also destroyed miracles of nature. We are concerned about our nutritional intake and exxercise all the time, so why shouldnt we care about the conditions of our living planet as well?
Time is ticking on. We shouldnt put off the whole "save the environment" affair any longer. Please, do what feels right in our hearts, even though it is only a tiny matter. Save up resources, promote the recycling and reusing of products, and always remember to take some time off going into the woods and breathe in the sweetness in the air. We have come from the woods, thus we would all have a secret desire in our hearts to harmonize with nature again. Remember, every little thing matters.
thank you, mr. chairman.
mr. chairman, i join my colleague mr. rangel in thanking you for giving the junior members of this committee the glorious opportunity of sharing the pain of this inquiry. mr. chairman, you are a strong man, and it has not been easy but we have tried as best we can to give you as much assistance as possible.
earlier today, we heard the beginning of the preamble to the constitution of the united states: "we, the people." it's a very eloquent beginning. but when that document was completed on the seventeenth of september in 1787, i was not included in that "we, the people." i felt somehow for many years that george washington and alexander hamilton just left me out by mistake. but through the process of amendment, interpretation, and court decision, i have finally been included in "we, the people."
The six-year-old John was terribly spoiled 。 His father knew it, but his grandma doted on him. He hardly left her side. And when he wanted anything, he either cried or threw a temper tantrum. Then came his first day of school, his first day away from his grandmothers loving arms.
When he came home from school his grandma met him at the door.
"Was school all right?" she asked, "Did you get along all right? did you cry?"
"Cry?" John asked. "No, I didnt cry, but the teacher did!"
Look at the Sky from the Bottom of a Well
There is a frog。 He lives in a well and he never goes out of the well。 He thinks the sky is as big as the mouth of the well。
One day a crow es to the well。 He sees the frog and says, “Frog, let’s have a talk。” Then the frog asks, “Where are you from?” “I fly from the sky,” the crow says。 The frog feels surprised and says, “The sky is only as big as the mouth of the well。 How do you fly from the sky?”
The crow says, “The sky is very big。 You always stay in the well, so you don’t know the world is big。”
The frog says, “I don’t believe。” But the crow says, “You can e out and have a look by yourself。”
So the frog es out from the well。 He is very surprised。 How big the world is!
In ancient times, there was a prime minister named Shang Yang in the State of Qin. He was held in high regard by the King. In the year 359 BC, he prepared for a political reform to promote the economic development. But he was afraid that the people would not believe local authorities. He thought an idea.
One day, he had a 10-meter long pole erected at the south gate outside the capital. Then he told the crowd whoever took the pole to the north gate would be awarded 10 ounces of silver. Everyone was astonished, but nobody dared to have a try. After seeing that, Shang Yang raised his voice and said:" Anyone who carries the pole to the north gate will get 50 ounces of silver." A brave man did it and was be given 50 ounces of silver. Others felt very reGREtful.
In this way, Shang Yang achieved his aim successfully. Soon the state of Qin became the strongest country.
Later, people use it to praise the man who keeps his promise.
A hippo lives in the zoo. I like him very much. I often go to see him. He often thinks of me, too. Today is Sunday. It is fine day. I go to see him again. After I leave the zoo, he follows me to my house. I give him lettuce, cabbages, bananas, apples and other food. He eats them up. When I sing songs, he stays in the pool. He is as quite as a rabbit.
In the evening, he jumps onto my bed with me. My mum tells him to go home. He has to pack his bag and go back to the zoo. My mum lets me see him every week.
Good morning.
Friendship is an umbrella of two figure, is a table on the two pairs of eyes; Friendship is like a curved warm harbor, quietly to soothe tired sailing; Friendship is crossing the sea, see each other eyes of tacit understanding, is unexpected.
Since have the friendship, I no longer lonely, lonely. We are always side by side, hand in hand, walking along the street at dusk, running in the romance in the rain. We are always on the same table, focused on learning. Sometimes silence, their respective; From time to time to discuss with each other, "quarrel"。 We will always be on a park bench, or talk to each other in the heart trouble and sorrow, be considerate comfort; Or will be happy to tell each other, and then laugh.
Since I no longer have the friendship, weak. When the fall in the road of life, and his heart was dominated by "give up" this idea completely. However, at this time, my friend will pick up, remind me to be strong, long life, is no thorns, if be tripped, has languished, choose to give up, how can feel the successful happiness? These words, made me hopeful again. From then on, whenever you fall, I will stand up, will it as a test of fate, believe not far from success.
Since have the friendship, I have found the "intended-and not to take a hint when a hint is not intended" feeling. For the same question, we often have the same opinion. We worship the same star, like the same color, love the same kind of writing style.。. Also, we are also cherish the friendship.
Friendship let us have a happy, confident, brave, insist!
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen:
Today I would like to begin with a story. There was once a physical therapist who traveled all the way from America to Africa to do a census about mountain gorillas. These gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over the world; this put them severely under threat of poaching and being put into the zoo. She went there out of curiosity, but what she saw strengthened her determination to devote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. She witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the mother gorillas cuddled their babies.
Yes, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called Gorillas in the Mist, based on a true story of Mrs. Diana Fossey, who spent most of her lifetime in Rwanda to protect the ecoenvironment there until the very end of her life.
To me, the movie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a timeless reminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of our eco-environment.
The plum tree sacrifices itself for the peach tree-Sacrifice oneself for another person
This idiom comes from a old folk song. the last two stanzas go like this:
One family has five brothers, all serving to a minister as attendants. Every five days, they go back home for a reunion, decorating their horses and garments with shining gold. They vie with each other for ostentation and extravagance, attracting crowds of onlookers along the road.
Now there is a peach tree by a well, and a plum tree next to it. When worms come to gnaw at the root of the peach tree, the plum tree invites them to gnaw at its own root. Finally, the plum dies, ossified.
Even trees know how to sacrifice for other trees, why cant brothers do the same?

BUYING A HAT
A lady went to a hat shop to buy a hat. As she was very fussy, it took her a long time to pick on one. Already at the end of his patience the salesman was afraid that she might change her mind again so he tried to flatter her: "
An excellent choice, madam. You look at least ten years younger with this hat on!" To his dismay, the lady took off her hat at once and said: "I don't want a hat that makes me look ten years older as soon as I take it off. Show me some more hats!"

A person in the shelter under the eaves, Kuan Yin is to see through umbrella. The man said: "The Goddess of Mercy, Purdue creatures like you, take me for some how?" The man replied: "I is Guanyin." The man asked: "Why do you worship their own?" Guanyin laughed: "I have encountered a difficult, but I know "
Tip: can save itself.
we cannot walk alone.and as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall march ahead. we cannot turn back. there are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "when will you be satisfied?" we can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. we cannot be satisfied as long as the negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. we can never be satisfied as long as a negro in mississippi cannot vote and a negro in new york believes he has nothing for which to vote. no, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.
Sometimes I will quietly think about what life is. A person comes to this world naked and leaves the world with his bare hands, turns into dust and goes into the universe. A person is just a passer-by of the whole world, whether he is poor or rich.
When people come to this world, they will leave something to prove that we have come, study hard and strive for our own ideals. In fact, a person's life is in your own hands, all of which deps on how you do it. Life is in our hands, bold forward, efforts may not be successful, but give up will certainly fail.
We should choose a good life when we are young, so that we can have a strong driving force for the learning in front of us.
Choosing life is no more than choosing a job. There are two ways to choose your life. For example, choosing life is like buying an egg, picking a fresh egg or buying a rotten egg. It deps on your choice.
With a long history and ups and downs, the cruelty of xia Jie, Shang Zhou and Zhou has long been infamous; Wen Tianxiang died for the country for a long time; Lu Bu killed the Lord and betrayed him and became his father. Zhuge Liang went out of Qishan six times and devoted himself to his death, which is a good story
The choice of life is only between one thought, life needs to choose, but also needs the right choice.

A Woman Who Fell
It was rush hour and I was dashing to a train in New York City's Grand Central Terminal - As I neared the gate, a plump, middle-aged woman sprinted up from behind, lost her footing on the smooth marble floor and slid onto her back。 Her momentum carried her close to my shoes。 Before I could help her, however, she had scrambled up。 Gaining her posure, she winked at me and said, "Do you always have beautiful women failing at your feet?"

Not long after an old Chinese woman came back to China from her visit to her daughter in the States, she went to a city bank to deposit the US dollars her daughter gave her. At the bank counter, the clerk checked each note carefully to see if the money was real. It made the old lady out of patience.
At last she could not hold any more, uttering. "Trust me, Sir, and trust the money. They are real US dollars. They are directly from America."

in the matter of courage we all have our limits. there never was a hero who did not have his bounds. i suppose it may be said of nelson and all the others whose courage has been advertised that there came times in their lives when their bravery knew it had come to its limit.
i have found mine a good many times. sometimes this was expected--often it was unexpected. i know a man who is not afraid to sleep with a rattle-snake, but you could not get him to sleep with a safety-razor.
i never had the courage to talk across a long, narrow room. i should be at the end of the room facing all the audience. if i attempt to talk across a room i find myself turning this way and that, and thus at alternate periods i have part of the audience behind me. you ought never to have any part of the audience behind you; you never can tell what they are going to do.
i'll sit down.

she kindled a third match. again shot up the flame; and now she was sitting under a most beautiful christmas tree ,far larger, and far more prettily decked out, than the one she had seen last christmas eve through the glass doors of the rich merchants house. hundreds of wax-tapers lighted up the green branches, and tiny painted figures, such as she had seen in the shop-windows, looked down from the tree upon her. the child stretched out her hands towards them in delight, and in that moment the lights of the match warm quenched; still, however, the christmas candles burned higher and higher, she beheld them beaming like stars in heaven; one of them fell, the lights streaming behind it like a long, fiery tail.
“now some one is dying,” said the little girl, softly, for she had been told by her old grandmother, the only person who had ever been kind to her, and who was now dead that whenever a star falls an immortal spirit returns to the god who gave it.
she struck yet another match against the wall; it flamed up, and surrounded by its light, appeared before her that same , gentle and loving as always, but bright and happy as she had never looked during her lifetime.
My sister, a primary school teacher, was informed by one of her pupils that a bird had built its nest in the tree outside the classroom.
"What kind of bird?" my sister asked.
"I didnt see the bird, ma am, only the nest," replied the child.
"Then, can you give us a description of the nest?" my sister encouraged her 。
"Well, maam, it just resembles your hair. "

“我没看到鸟儿,老师,只看到鸟窝。”那孩子回答说。
“那么,你能给我们描述一下这个鸟巢吗?”我姐姐鼓励她道。
“哦,老师,就像你的头发一样。”

It was rush hour and I was dashing to a train in New York Citys Grand Central Terminal - As I neared the gate, a plump, middle-aged woman sprinted up from behind, lost her footing on the smooth marble floor and slid onto her back. Her momentum carried her close to my shoes. Before I could help her, however, she had scrambled up. Gaining her posure, she winked at me and said, "Do you always have beautiful women failing at your feet?"
