a window is opened up at the crack of dawn, beside which one man is overlooking the the mess of buildings outside, breathing the fresh air cosily. but just after a little while, he steps to his seat, staring at the computer screen till the night. this man is very likely a programmer.

there is a man who concentrates on his computer, but doesn’t care about however he dresses, or even whether he washes his face.

there is a man who has a good knowledge of computer language, but has a low eq and makes a bad relationship with others.

there is a man who stays at home and does his own work by himself day and night, but just has few friends.

these images shown above probably are what people think of programmers as, in fact, programmers indeed give us a bad impression sometimes. however, people just have a partial understanding of programmers’ life, not to mention that they can know the fun of programming. there is no doubt that programs affect all aspects of our lives in an obvious or potential way, especially they are reflected in electronic products that we use nowadays.

when you are so proud of possessing an iphone, you’d better remember that it is the program that makes you get confidence to show off the advanced mobile phones thoroughly.

when you take advantage of computers to cope with problems in life, you’d better remember that it is the program that makes you seek the convenience of computer.

when you needn’t worry about hot summer and cold winter owing to an air-conditioner, you’d better remember that it is the program that makes you share the machine’s intelligent.

when you release your pressure by playing varies of online games, you’d better remember that it is the program that makes you enjoy the great entertainment in life.

as people’s thoughts control their bodies, computer programs play a leading role in the modern times. both social progress and human evolution depend on the computer programs. in the practical application, a software consists of different programs and then combines with hardware to develop into a high-tech electronic product. there are many kinds of electronic products found everywhere in our daily life. nearly all the time do we make use of these products to conduct our passion.

Good afternoon! My dear teachers and friends. My name is Li Wenwen.I’m fourteen years old.In class 8,grade 1.

Different people has different dreams. Someone wants to be a doctor. Someone wants to be a basketball player, because he is good at sports. Someone wants to be a writer, because he likes writing. Someone wants to be a teacher because he likes teaching children. What do I want to do when I’m older?

You see,I like playing the piano and I am good at it. So I want to become a piano player.(pianist). Playing the piano is very interesting. And you can learn something of music. Piano can make your life beautiful and happy. Your life is full of music. A lot of musicians and singers love playing the pianos. I could play the piano when I was ten years old. All of my teachers and my classmates say I can play the piano very well. I have got Grand Five . I hope when I’m sixteen years old,I can get Grand Eight. Now I’m a middle school student. There are many things at school. Sometimes ,I have no time to play the piano. But,I’ll still be harder and harder to practise. The youngest pianoist, Langlang is my idol. He is such a great pianoist.I hope I can be a pianoist like him. I know becoming a piano is a hard job. But I believe I can do it. There is a will, there is a way. My dream will come ture one day. Believe me! Thank you! Dear teachers, students: I am very happy to meet with you here today to tell you my speech is entitled "English, so I am happy." English, spread to all over the world, people talk about memorization. Since my time in first grade began to learn English, I was not interested in it, but the third and fourth grade, when a sudden interest in reading in English every day, and even self-learning, to raise a lot of English results . Now, my greatest interest is the time to see the English. Each weekend, I always find time to read English books or see on the English comic books, information books, and even outside the time when shopping, but also with some English information on the book, simply put it down. Each school, I sometimes went to the library of books on English, a view that is 30 minutes, the harvest has been so many. Once again, the summer vacation, I went to the United Kingdom. Where I see a lot of the city, this afternoon I have friends with the British dialogue in English, but also know a lot of knowledge of English, they also compliment away一extra-curricular knowledge of the English book. I have often in the Monday and Tuesday, when listening to English tapes, one is 3 hours. Also frequently used sentence patterns learned review again, I learned to feel very proud.

The book in English class after school, but also extra-curricular English book out to read, every time I think: if these extra-curricular English read the end, learned that their English, reading and writing is not improved. Therefore, I, day and night, every day, reading, really English results improved reading and writing, I am more proud of. I know that Rome was not built in a day. I believe that through continuous efforts to learn, one day, I can speak English very well. Therefore, I am very happy of. Ladies and gentlemen: Good morning! Today, the title of my speech is A Lesson from Nature. Around us,there are plants, animals and many other things. We live in nature, so to keep the balance of nature is very important for us. But today, too many trees are still being cut down in many countries and flood all over the world are getting more and more serious, A lot of land has gone with them. This is a lesson from nature. When people move into a new place, they often cut down trees or pull out many wild plants to make farmland. They don’t know that trees can stop flood and wind from washing or blowing the earth away, and that many of these wild plants are food for some wild animals. If the animals can’t find enough plants to eat, they will die or have to leave the place. In one part of the United States, for example, the deer there like to eat a kind of wild flowers. The mountain tigers there eat the deer. But people killed many mountain tigers to protect the deer. soon there were so many deer that the ate up all the wild flowers. Then the deer began to eat the green leaves of the young trees .so the farmers thought of ways to protect their trees, then the deer had nothing to eat and many of them died. The number of trees, deer, tigers, wild flowers and plants has changed much—less and less. We need to do more to keep the balance of nature. Thank you!

Someone said “;we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite ”;. I don’t know who wrote these words, but I’ve always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be. We are all in the position of the farmers. If we plant a good seed ,we reap a good harvest. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all. We are young. “;How to spend the youth? ”; It is a meaningful question. To answer it, first I have to ask “;what do you understand by the word youth? ”; Youth is not a time of life, it’s a state of mind. It’s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. It’s the matter of the will. It’s the freshness of the deep spring of life. A poet said “;To see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. Several days ago, I had a chance to listen to a lecture. I learnt a lot there. I’d like to share it with all of you. Let’s show our right palms. We can see three lines that show how our love.career and life is. I have a short line of life. What about yours? I wondered whether we could see our future in this way. Well, let’s make a fist. Where is our future? Where is our love, career, and life? Tell me.Yeah, it is in our hands. It is held in ourselves.We all want the future to be better than the past. But the future can go better itself. Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. From the past, we’ve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. We’ve learnt that we can’t choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. Failure doesn’t mean you don’t have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way. Failure doesn’t mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder. As what I said at the beginning, “;we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite ”;. The past has gone. Nothing we do will change it. But the future is in front of us. Believe that what we give to the world, the world will give to us. And from today on, let’s be the owners of ourselves, and speak out “;We are the world, we are the future. ”;

Sports are more than competitions. To me, they mean growth under the care of others. I learned this the hard way.

I used to be very shy and often felt lonely. Although I did well in all the academic subjects, I was afraid of physical education. My classmates often laughed at me.

“Look at that girl,” they said. “Her feet don’t leave the ground when she runs!”

Their words embarrassed me. Moreover, whenever the teacher organized some competitive games, no one in the class liked to have me as their partner or team member. As a result, I often ended up looking at others enjoy their games.

Things would go on like that if not for a sports meet in my high school. By mistake, my name was put on the list of those who would compete in the women’s 1500 meters race. By the time people found the mistake, it was too late to change.

My desk-mate was a natural athlete. She said to me, “I couldn’t run that race in your place, because I’ve signed up for three items already.” Other athletic girls of the class said the same.

I was utterly dumbfounded. 1500 meters! Running against the best runners from other classes! And in front of students of the entire school! It would be the worst nightmare I’d ever have!

“You still have time to catch up because there is still one month before the sports meet,” they all said this to me, including my teacher.

My desk-mate patted me on the shoulder, “Cool! You will run for our class! And we will do training together.” Yes, this is not just for myself, but for my class too, I said to myself. But still, 1500 meters to me was like Mount Everest to a beginning climber. I had no idea even how to start my preparation.

Fortunately, my desk-mate gave me a hand. Every afternoon after class, several of us ran together. When the fear of being laughed at struck me, I saw others running right beside me. They gave me strengths. While we were running, some others would stand by the tracks cheering for us.

One month certainly couldn’t make me a good runner. But when I was standing behind the start line, I no longer felt lonely or afraid. I saw my classmates standing by the tracks waving at me as if about to run beside me.

With the shot of the starting gun, I dashed out and ran as fast as I could, as if it were a 200-meter race. Soon I was out of breath and slowed down. Other runners passed me one by one, and gradually I had no idea how many of them were still behind me. My legs were getting heavier and heavier, and I might fall down at any moment. However, I suddenly heard my classmates chanting my name. My desk-mate even ran along the tracks beside me and cheered for me at the same time, just like the month-long training we did together.

As expected, I was almost the last to cross the finish line. Immediately, my classmates held my arms and urged me to walk on my feet and not to sit down. I was surrounded, with all kinds of drinks handed to me. I felt a kind of warmth I had never felt before. Even though I was almost the last to finish the race, I was full of confidence that I would improve in the future.

That sports meet was an unforgettable experience. The memory of my classmates cheering for me, holding my arms and handing me drinks stays fresh on my mind. Sports are no longer about winning or losing. They give me a lot of confidence, both confidence in my fellow students and confidence in my own potential. I am no longer lonely, no longer afraid. Sports have brought me close to my classmates and helped us grow together.

Now, I participate in the sports meet every year. Even if I am not competing, I would help my classmates with their practice, just like the way my desk-mate and others ran with me.

Once upon a time there was a hare who, boasting how he could run faster than anyone else, was forever teasing tortoise for its slowness. Then one day, the irate tortoise answered back: "Who do you think you are? There's no denying you're swift, but even you can be beaten!" The hare squealed with laughter.

"Beaten in a race? By whom? Not you, surely! I bet there's nobody in the world that can win against me, I'm so speedy. Now, why don't you try?"

Annoyed by such bragging, the tortoise accepted the challenge. A course was planned, and the next day at dawn they stood at the starting line. The hare yawned sleepily as the meek tortoise trudged slowly off. When the hare saw how painfully slow his rival was, he decided, half asleep on his feet, to have a quick nap. "Take your time!" he said. "I'll have forty winks and catch up with you in a minute."

The hare woke with a start from a fitful sleep and gazed round, looking for the tortoise. But the creature was only a short distance away, having barely covered a third of the course. Breathing a sigh of relief, the hare decided he might as well have breakfast too, and off he went to munch some cabbages he had noticed in a nearby field. But the heavy meal and the hot sun made his eyelids droop. With a careless glance at the tortoise, now halfway along the course, he decided to have another snooze before flashing past the winning post. And smiling at the thought of the look on the tortoise's face when it saw the hare speed by, he fell fast asleep and was soon snoring happily. The sun started to sink, below the horizon, and the tortoise, who had been plodding towards the winning post since morning, was scarcely a yard from the finish. At that very point, the hare woke with a jolt. He could see the tortoise a speck in the distance and away he dashed. He leapt and bounded at a great rate, his tongue lolling, and gasping for breath. Just a little more and he'd be first at the finish. But the hare's last leap was just too late, for the tortoise had beaten him to the winning post. Poor hare! Tired and in disgrace, he slumped down beside the tortoise who was silently smiling at him.

"Slowly does it every time!" he said.

Building Bridges for the Future

I’m studying in a city that’s famous for its walls。 People who visit my city are amazed at the imposing sight of its walls, especially when silhouetted against the setting sun with gold, shining streaks。 The old, cracked bricks are covered with lichens and the walls are weather-beaten guards standing still for centuries。

Our ancestors liked to build walls。 They built walls in Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing and many other cities, and they built the Great Wall, which snakes across half our country。 They built walls to protect against enemies and evil spirits。 This tradition has survived to this day: we still have many parks and schools walled off from the public。

For a long time, walls were one of the most natural things in the world to me。

My perceptions, however, changed after I made a hiking trip to the eastern suburbs of my city。 My classmates and I were walking with some foreign students。 As we walked out of the city, we found ourselves flanked by tall trees, which formed a wide canopy above our heads。 Suddenly one foreign student asked me, “Where is the entrance to the eastern suburbs?”

“We’re already in the eastern suburbs,” I replied。 He seemed taken aback, “I thought you Chinese had walls for everything。” His remark set off a heated debate。 At one point, he likened our walled cities to “jails”, while I insisted that the eastern suburbs were one of the many places in China that had no walls。

That debate had no winners, but I did learn a lot from this student。 For instance, he told me that some major universities like Oxford and Cambridge were not surrounded by walls。 I have to admit that we do have many walls in China, and as we develop our country, we must look carefully at them and decide whether they are physical or intangible。 We will keep some walls but tear down those that impede our development。

Let me give another example。

A year ago, when I was working on a term paper, I needed a book on business law and found a copy in the law school library。 However, the librarian coldly rejected my request to borrow it, saying, “You can’t borrow this book, you’re not a student here。” In the end, I had to spend 200 yuan to buy a copy。 Meanwhile, the copy in the law school gathered dust on the shelf。

At the beginning of this semester, I heard that my university had started to think of unifying its libraries and linking them to libraries at other universities, so my experience wouldn’t be repeated。 Barriers would be replaced by bridges。 An inter-library loan system would give us access to books from any library。 With globalization and China integrated into the world, I believe many of these intangible walls will be knocked down。

I know that globalization is a controversial issue, and it is hard to say whether it is good or bad。 But one thing is for sure: it draws our attention to China’s tangible and intangible walls and forces us to examine their role in the modern world。

And how about the ancient walls of mine and other cities? Should we tear them down? Definitely not。 My city, like Beijing and other cities, is actually XXX a great effort to preserve the walls。 These walls attract historians, archaeologists, and many schoolchildren who are trying to study our history and cultural heritage。 Walls have become bridges to our past and to the rest of the world。 If the ancient builders of these walls were still alive today, they would be proud to see such great changes in the role of their walls。 They are now bridges that link East and West, South and North, and all countries of the world。 Our cultural heritage will survive globalization。
