it is undeniable that the worsening environment has become the biggestconcern of the present-day world. land resources are dwindling because of waterloss and soil erosion. waste gases poison the air we breathe. the rivers andlakes are polluted by waste dumped in them from factories. it is probably noe~aggeration to say that deterioration of the quality of the environmentthreatens the eistence of mankind itself.
some people are of the opinion that the environmental problem is the pricewe have to pay for economic development. but i do not think that this argumentis valid. after all, what is the point of economic growth if people’s lives areadversely alfected by worsening environmental pollution?
there is plenty of evidence to show that sustainable development can beachieved by balancing economic growth with protection of the environment. thekey to achieving this is to make people aware of the seriousness of the governments and ordinary citizens should join hands to make this world abetter place to live in, not only for ourselves, but also for futuregenerations.

Even now I can still see a very special picture in my mind now. I was taking part in the 800-meter race. To be honest, it was not hard at first. I felt energetic and confident. We were all pushing on to the finishing line. One minute, two minutes,… Terrible!~ One of the athletes was half the lap ahead of me. So tired and worried I was that my feet could not move any further. “Give up?” A low voice came from the bottom of my heart. At the same time I could feel something shining. My friends and even my Mom and Dad were watching and shouting so loud, “Come on! Never give up!” Strangely, my body kept going. Anyhow I would finish the competition. And I made it.

Good Evening, my fellow Americans.
Tonight I want to talk to you on a subject of deep concern to all Americans and to many people in all parts of the world, the war in Vietnam.
I believe that one of the reasons for the deep division about Vietnamis that many Americans have lost confidence in what their Government has told them about our policy. The American people cannot and should not be asked to support a policy which involves the overriding issues of war and peace unless they know the truth about that policy.
Tonight, therefore, I would like to answer some of the questions that I know are on the minds of many of you listening to me.
How and why did America get involved in Vietnam in the first place?
How has this administration changed the policy of the previous Administration?
What has really happened in the negotiations in Paris and the battlefront in Vietnam?
What choices do we have if we are to end the war?
What are the prospects for peace?

I believe I can fly! Maybe you think that I am a crazy person or something. Well, actually I believe I can fly is the name of a song, which is my favorite English song. The reason why I like this song is the song brings me courage to make my dreams come true. Just like the song say I believe I can fly! I believe I can touch the sky . You know I still dream about being a witch like Harry Potter and live in the wizardly world, to use my powers to save the day, like stopping the World Trade center from falling down, or stopping the war on Iraq I know being a witch is impossible, but to make our world a better place is definitely possible.
Besides being a witch I also want to be an archaeologist, an Egyptologist. I want to go to Egypt, to discover the beauty of this ancient civilization. I think about it day and night, I see myself standing beside the pyramid, and working in the desert with mummies and sarcophagus. Maybe the dream is kind of far away from me. But I believe that one day my dream will indeed come true.
Finally, I want to tell you all that I always keep saying to myself: I believe I can fly! And now I am standing on this stage, and I believe I can make it!

Hi everyone. My topic today is Maths in my Eyes.
When I mention the word “maths” some adjectives will come to mind, boring, difficult and complicated. But I think maths is very interesting. It is used almost everywhere in our life and also related to art and music.
We all know one geometrical concept, the golden section. It's very important in painting, sculpture and architecture, such as the Parthenon in Athens and the Venus de Milo. In nature a little pentagonal flower has its golden section. It looks beautiful.
What about its connection with music? Lets take a look at a straight and tight string. Pluck it, and then halve its length, then pluck it again. The sound we hear is the same note but a higher frequency. The Greek mathematician Pythagoras discovered this law and it developed into the musical scale we know today.
Another example is from the famous composer, Bach. When we listen to his music in “Well-Tempered Clavier”， we find the notes are always getting higher .But amazingly, in the end, it comes back to the initial height. Why is it? That's why Bach was great! It's a very interesting maths problem. We call it a paradox.
These days we learn maths at school. The only purpose is to get a high mark. But I personally think that those with curious and creative minds will open the door to the world of maths. Just as Galileo said, “Mathematics is the alphabet with which God has written the universe”。 Maths, in my eyes, is a fascinating subject that needs our passion and imagination. In the end I hope you love this boundless treasure and enjoy the magical world of maths!

but for myself，i learn english not only because of its importance and its usefulness，but also because of my love for i learn english，i can feel a different way of thinking which gives me more room to touch the i read english novels，i can feel the pleasure from the book which is different from reading the i speak english，i can feel the confident from my i write english，i can see the beauty which is not the same as our chinese......
i love english，it gives me a colorful dream.i hope i can travel around the world one day. with my good english，i can make friends with many people from different contries.i can see many places of great interests.i dream that i can go to london，because it is the birth place of english.
i also want to use my good english to introduce our great places to the english spoken people，i hope that they can love our country like us.
i know，rome was not built in a day. i believe that after continuous hard study，one day i can speak english very well.

On the other hand, my other son, Hunter, who heads the World Food Program USA, graduated from Yale Law School.Now, he thought it’s a great idea. But then again, law graduates always think all of their ideas are great ideas.
By the way, I’ve had a lot of law graduates from Yale work for me. That's not too far from the truth. But anyway, look, the truth of the matter is that I have a lot of staff that are Yale graduates, several are with me today. They thought it was a great idea that I speak here.
As a matter of fact, my former national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, who is teaching here at Yale Law School, trained in international relations at Yale College, edited the Yale Daily News, and graduated from Harvard -- excuse me, Freudian slip -- Yale Law School. You’re lucky to have him. He’s a brilliant and decent and honorable man. And I miss him. And we miss him as my national security advisor.
But he’s not the only one. My deputy national security advisor, Jeff Prescott, started and ran the China Law Center at Yale Law School. My Middle East policy advisor and foreign policy speechwriter, Dan Benaim, who is with me, took Daily Themes -— got a B. Now you know why I go off script so much.

A lot of measures have been taken。 Planting trees helps improve and beautify the environment。 Besides， laws concerning environmental protection have been put into effect and achieved good results。
However， the problem of environmental protection remains far from being solved。 On the one hand， the environment pollution and destruction are getting worse and worse in the modern world。 On the other hand， the lack of knowledge about the importance of protecting environment hinders the solving of the problem。 In a word， there is a long way to go before we enjoy a clean and fortable world。

We are young. “How to spend the youth?” It is a meaningful question. To answer it, first I have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” Youth is not a time of life, it’s a state of mind. It’s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. It’s the matter of the will. It’s the freshness of the deep spring of life.
A poet said “To see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. Several days ago, I had a chance to listen to a lecture. I learnt a lot there. I’d like to share it with all of you. Let’s show our right palms. We can see three lines that show how our love.career and life is. I have a short line of life. What about yours? I wondered whether we could see our future in this way. Well, let’s make a fist. the snow storm, the tibet issue, the obstruction to the olympic torch relay，the earthquaketime dates back to the day the horrible earth quake occurred in sichuan, tens of thousands of people lost life and families. i’ll never forget those days i sat front of the tv, moved by people never gave up under ruins even there’s little hope to survive. i’ll never forget those days most newspapers and websites were all in black and white. i’ll never forget those days i had my black coat on, writing down my best wishes to the suffering people.
at the same time, i also remember those days my friends abroad told me that they joined in the protest against western world’s bias on china and the fight against the tibetan separatists. i can still remember the day when i went to see the torch relay at hangzhou with heart shaped stickers on cheek. i wore the t-shirt with words light the passion, light the dream . when the torch passed by, we cheered go china, go beijing, sang the national anthem again and again, waving flags, dancing, hugging, clapping. it was the opening ceremony of 20__ beijing olympic games which shocked the whole world and told the entire human yes, we can.

throughout my years of being a student, i’ve had many teachers. none of them are the same, but the one that i’ll never forget and will always miss is my chinese bilingual teacher in the middle school i attended in seattle, ms. ho. she was a skinny, but stylish lady in her 50s. she was different from all the other teachers because she gave me something unforgettable.
ms. ho and i became friends right in the first semester i was in that middle school. at the same time, i was having a really hard time with my subjects. since i had just transferred from a bilingual school, where i had stayed for two months after arriving in the us, my english was horrible; my average grade was below c. i almost thought it impossible to learn english. then, one day she told me she strongly believed that i was capable of controlling my life, and i would be just fine. she said that she found we were much alike: both were stubborn, kind-hearted and a little bit simple-minded. she believed that i had the quality of becoming wise. she even said that she didn’t have any worries about me, about my not learning english. with her encouragement, i found the strength within myself and began to desire to work even harder. as a result, i soon proved her right, and at the end of the semester, i got a 3.8 average grade.
today, i still keep in touch with her, and she still tells me how she believes in me. sometimes, i’d think back, and wonder how i could handle all those things if it wasn’t for her encouragement and trust. could i be the person i am today? then, it struck me: what we need has always been trust and love of others; because these things inspire us to do our best, and to live our life to its fullest.
to sum up, i’d like to say to all of you: let us all appreciate trust and love of others and achieve our full potential in our life!

My name is .this evening i want to talk something about college life . it include four aspects study,relative ,friendship and love .the first thing i want to say is study. we all have dreams before we enter university,we dream that we can have much more free time and we can improve us according to our advantages ,so we studied hard at junior school and senior school .now we are here in linyi normal university but many of us have no smails on their faces because here is not the place we have been dreaming for. what i want to say is that you can enter a better university to start your heigher education if you studied hard here.so you must calm down and start to study. study is the first thing you must do at university because study can help you achieve you dream.
Now,i want to ask some of you a question: where you get your money from? who can answer my question? --------yes we get our money from our parents. this is the second thing i want to say : the relative .our parents paied us here , they give all the things they have so we must respect them and get on well with them ,they also need us just like we need them.apart from our parents we have many other relatives ,they also give us supports, we should respect them and get on well with them too. if we have no relatives we will have no power to study here.
When we start to study we meet many new faces which will live with us for four years we must make friends with them .just like the saying says friends play an important role in our life,if you have many fiends you will have less troublts in your life ,if you have no friends you will have troublts everwhere in your life,so do you want to have many friends? of course the answer is ‘yes’.this is the third thing i want to say :the friendship.
Love is the last thing i want to say.as far as i can see love is the last thing you do at uiversity.if you fall into the river you will never get out,this does greet harm to your body and your study.besides many people say that love will not give you the sense of sweetness during schoollife.so i do not support on-campus students start their love at university.

Smile is so important of the world; it also can change the world! Smile and the world smiles with you!
Do you still remember the smiles from someone in your mind? What’s your feeling about that? The majority of people are trying to pursue happiness through their lifetime, but what is the root of happiness? I take the strong position that one of the secrets is smile. Smile makes the world go around.
