good afternoon, my honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen and fellow contestants:
i feel so happy to have the chance to make a speech. the title of my speech is protect the environment, protect ourselves. i hope you will like it.
everybody knows waste paper and used coke cans are discarded everywhere. you might have seen plastic bags flying in the sky and getting caught in the trees when the wind blows or maybe you have seen old cans floating in the rivers and polluting the water. our environment is the place in which we live, but it is being ruined by us.
there is a story about house and trees. it is said that a man’s house was surrounded by a lot of trees. though the wind was strong, that man could have a good rest under the trees. how comfortable the life was! one day, that man wanted to enlarge his house, so he cut down all the trees. then the autumn came without the protection. the strong wind blew the roof of the house into the sky. the whole house was gone with the wind. what a pity! but that’s the price people have to pay for destroying in the ecology balance. people shouldn’t be short-sighted. protecting the environment is everyone’s task.
as you know, there are four kinds of pollution. they are air pollution, water pollution, waste pollution and noise pollution. but what can we do to solve the pollution? i think, firstly, we can make cars that don’t pollute the environment. we can ask companies to use modern clean technology. in some big cities, we can limit the number of cars. secondly, we can try to use less water and make sure that we do not pollute the water. we can tell factories that they are not allowed to pour waste water into the lakes and rivers. thirdly, we should not throw rubbish in parks and cities. we can pick up rubbish if we see it. we can put more rubbish bins in our parks and cities. fourthly, we can live far from the noise and make the laws to limit the noise.
the air, water and the whole atmosphere directly influenced our lives, such as the air, people may cough and it will lead to cancer. so we must try our best to keep the world clean and tidy. to reach it, i want to put forward three points to everybody---point 1: don’t spit and liter; point 2: don’t draw on the wall; point 3: clean the streets every day.
in order to make the environment clean, let’s join our hands together to make the world better.

In our current society, we can’t be more familiar with the phrase ----the low carbon economy. we all take it for granted due to the fact the concept of low carbon economy enjoys a higher and higher popularity in our daily life, especially after today’s speech contestj .but how can we achieve the goal of low carbon economy?
So what’s low carbon life style?
Let’s look back on our daily life. every morning as soon as you open your eyes, are you used to turn on the lights immediately when the room is bright enough as long as you draw the window curtains apart? is that your habit that when you are brushing your teeth you leave the water tap running on? are you accustomed to setting the temperature of the air conditioner in your office below 26 degrees celsius? in general, a low-carbon lifestyle covers many aspects of our modern life, such as cooking, transportation, home heating, and holiday travel, which can be conducted in a way that gives the maximum reduction of personal carbon emissions. it is a life with low energy, low consumption, low expenses.

In the activity，we are required to go to school or some other place by bikeor by foot as much as possible instead of by when the Christmases，sending e-greeting cards instead of tridional cards of which are made of woodas we des，we should use both sides of every piece of paper and weshould save water as well as electricity.
I believe that only we do thus can we have a better living environment.
There are still many problems of environmental protection in recent of the most serious problems is the serious pollution of air，water andsoil. the polluted air does great harm to people’s health. The polluted watercauses diseases and death. What is more，vegetation had been greatly reducedwith the rapid growth of modern cities.
To protect the environment，governments of many countries have done a slative steps have been introduced to control air pollution，to protect theforest and sea resources and to stop any environmental pollution. We live in the beautiful earth, it's a pity that the earth is every day under the various odor, chemical items, poison, carrion, automobile exhaust, living garbage, factories and so on dirty garbage pollution, make our lovely earth gradually degradation. So to protect the environment is the duty of every man.
Plants and trees is human natural oxygen "manufacturer". But the deforestation, the destruction of the ecological balance of nature; Sand dunes to gobble up the fertile land, white; Floods can be our lovely home. Relentless stuff we clear the river becomes cloudy. Dense forests become sparse clutter, the blue sky become dark, green mountains become bald. Mud-rock flow, dust storm, flood... Some people may say,'we are the masters of nature." But is it true Nowadays we have face more and more problems because of human's temperature is higher year by year,more and more ground is turning to desert,and the water from our city's river can not be we still make no sense to save our nature ,maybe one day in the future,we will have no fresh air to breathe and no clean water to drink...
So,from now on ,from you and me ,from the little things in our life ,learn to save our nature,to protect our enviornment,and to stop people damaging our nature !Everybody ,let's do it !
Some people may proudly say: we are the masters of nature. it is true that the idea of "man can conquer nature" has dominated people's mind for years, and it is true, man has kept acting like a master and doing whatever things he wants for thousands of years. however, as the consequence of this kind of "leadership" , now the "master" seems to be confronted with problems that are far beyond his control. facts are really very ample. thegreen house effect leaves islands and cities along the coast, such as this oriental pearl-shanghai, in danger of the disaster of being drowned; the holes of the ozone layer make the earth less suitable to live for some creatures including human beings; the phenomena of el nino and la nina leave the land with serious flood and drought, and the diseases, caused by pollution, are increasing at an incredible speed... seeing all these facts, can we still ignore the counterattack of nature? we are not the masters of nature. facing all the disasters made by ourselves, we, mankind as a whole should realize that we are just a normal member of the big family of nature. any mistreatment towards nature will meet only with the revenge from her.
By saying so, i do not mean we should give a sudden stop to any development. because that will result in a threat to the existence of human society. i mean we should treat nature equally, leaving the chance of existence and development to nature as we are obtaining the same thing, and thus we will get the situation of win-win.
Iam very pleased to find that now more and more people, from every corner of the planet, have come to realize that harmony with nature is the only way to universal and continuous progress and prosperity. and i think that is why we come here from all over the country to discuss this topic today.
I want to end my speech by quoting from mr. nixon. "our destiny offers, not the cup of despair, but the chalice of opportunity." the future is not ours to see of course. however, by seizing firmly the opportunities, by knowing clearly about ourselves, we, human beings, can doubtlessly achieve the real harmony with nature!
