My name is Dongqi Yang from china, I am horror to be here today and I am very happy to receive this award.
As you can imagine, as international students in Australia, the biggest challenge is English,I remembered that when I come here first time, there is a party in the house of my home stay. During the time, they played jokes and they laughed all the time, do you know how embarrassed that is, everyone laughed except you. So I pretend to understand the joke in another party, I saw everyone laugh and I laugh too in 5 seconds later. My home stay was surprised about that and asked me “do you understand?”， and I answered “no”， “So why do you laugh?” ”because I do not want to be embarrassed”!
But as I receive this award today, I want to thank to them, because they encourage me to be involved with the committee rather than staying in at home, play computer and speak Chinese.
When I came to Wantirna College first time, I met liz collar who is international student coordinator. She is very kind to me, and she encourage me join SRC, I went to SRC meetings regularly all the time, but I didn’t even know what SRC was! That is the reason why I told her, I don’t want to go to SRC anymore. But she said “why not? You should go and you have to go!”I asked” why?” she said:” because I said so!”
But as ii receive this award today, I want to thank her. She helps me a lot.
Truth be told, I am not the best student in Wantirna College, but I appreciate this award and I will try my best in future.

Man’s life is a process of growing up, actually I’m standing here is a growth. If a person’s life must constituted by various choices, then I grow up along with these choices. Once I hope I can study in a college in future, however that’s passed, as you know I come here, now I wonder what the future holds for (= what will happen to) me.When I come to this school, I told to myself: this my near future, all starts here. Following I will learn to become a man, an integrated man, who has a fine body, can take on important task, has independent thought, an open mind, intensive thought, has the ability to judge right and wrong, has a perfect job.
Once my teacher said :” you are not sewing, you are stylist; never forget which you should lay out to people is your thought, not craft.” I will put my personality with my interest and ability into my study, during these process I will combine learning with doing. Building Bridges for the Future
I’m studying in a city that’s famous for its walls。 People who visit my city are amazed at the imposing sight of its walls， especially when silhouetted against the setting sun with gold， shining streaks。 The old， cracked bricks are covered with lichens and the walls are weather-beaten guards standing still for centuries。
Our ancestors liked to build walls。 They built walls in Beijing， Xi’an， Nanjing and many other cities， and they built the Great Wall， which snakes across half our country。 They built walls to protect against enemies and evil spirits。 This tradition has survived to this day: we still have many parks and schools walled off from the public。
For a long time， walls were one of the most natural things in the world to me。
My perceptions， however， changed after I made a hiking trip to the eastern suburbs of my city。 My classmates and I were walking with some foreign students。 As we walked out of the city， we found ourselves flanked by tall trees， which formed a wide canopy above our heads。 Suddenly one foreign student asked me， “Where is the entrance to the eastern suburbs?”
“We’re already in the eastern suburbs，” I replied。 He seemed taken aback， “I thought you Chinese had walls for everything。” His remark set off a heated debate。 At one point， he likened our walled cities to “jails”， while I insisted that the eastern suburbs were one of the many places in China that had no walls。
That debate had no winners， but I did learn a lot from this student。 For instance， he told me that some major universities like Oxford and Cambridge were not surrounded by walls。 I have to admit that we do have many walls in China， and as we develop our country， we must look carefully at them and decide whether they are physical or intangible。 We will keep some walls but tear down those that impede our development。
Let me give another example。
A year ago， when I was working on a term paper， I needed a book on business law and found a copy in the law school library。 However， the librarian coldly rejected my request to borrow it， saying， “You can’t borrow this book， you’re not a student here。” In the end， I had to spend 200 yuan to buy a copy。 Meanwhile， the copy in the law school gathered dust on the shelf。
At the beginning of this semester， I heard that my university had started to think of unifying its libraries and linking them to libraries at other universities， so my experience wouldn’t be repeated。 Barriers would be replaced by bridges。 An inter-library loan system would give us access to books from any library。 With globalization and China integrated into the world， I believe many of these intangible walls will be knocked down。
I know that globalization is a controversial issue， and it is hard to say whether it is good or bad。 But one thing is for sure: it draws our attention to China’s tangible and intangible walls and forces us to examine their role in the modern world。
And how about the ancient walls of mine and other cities? Should we tear them down? Definitely not。 My city， like Beijing and other cities， is actually XXX a great effort to preserve the walls。 These walls attract historians， archaeologists， and many schoolchildren who are trying to study our history and cultural heritage。 Walls have become bridges to our past and to the rest of the world。 If the ancient builders of these walls were still alive today， they would be proud to see such great changes in the role of their walls。 They are now bridges that link East and West， South and North， and all countries of the world。 Our cultural heritage will survive globalization。

As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon's tooth. This is a true story.
65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.
In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon's mouth.
He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 20xx, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome.
When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one's error.
Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. I would like to say to all of my friends: Let's be honest people of good moral character.

活动宗旨
在21世纪的今天，英语在国际交流与对外活动中发挥着越来越大的作用，作 为了提高在校大学生的口语水平，丰富丰富我校的校园文化生活，体现大学生朝气蓬勃、积极向上的精神状态，提高我院学生英语口语表达能力及现场演讲能力，营造浓厚的校园学术氛围，同时也为了提高大学生综合素质，帮助广大学生合理规划英语学习，特举办计算机学院英语演讲比赛同学们的业余生活， 展示学生的风采，增强学生学习英语的兴趣同时增强校园英语学习的良好氛围，我院决定在四月举办“中山大学南方学院第四届校园文化艺术节之英语演讲大赛”。
活动目的
提高同学学习英语的积极性，特别是提高对英语口语训练的积极性。丰富学生的课余生活。为同学们提供一个学习和交流英语学习的平台，共同进步。加深对英语口语重要性的认识。通过举办活动，为广大英语爱好者提供一个相互交流和学习的机会
对英语尤其对英语口语有一定的热情及功底。

由学习部组成评选小组，对参赛人员进行初赛的选拔。
初赛胜出者将参加由院里直接进行的演讲比赛。选出获奖参赛者

比赛分两轮进行，初赛参赛决出前十名，决赛按照得分高低依次排列
②决赛：演讲比赛
提前抽签决定上场顺序，每位参赛选手进行30秒左右自我介绍，5分钟自由演讲和6分钟以内的才艺表演，并根据本环节评分选出一二三等奖各一名。
四、比赛注意事项
1)。所有选手必须按抽号顺序上台演讲，如无法按时参加比赛，则自动放弃比赛资格。 2)。 在决赛演讲比赛中，若参赛选手在规定时间内不能完成演讲，评委在打分时将酌情扣分，最多扣除3分
3)。 所有比赛完成后，将颁发个人奖的一、二、三名选手。

精彩激烈的以“先进青春使命奉献”为主题的演讲比赛终于在我们的期待中如期举行了。本次演讲比赛是由我部主办，学生会其他部门协办的，旨在让全部师生都能更好地学习提高我系学生的演讲及表达能力，激发广大学生的演讲及表达能力，激发广大学生关注的社会的热情。
本次演讲比赛的筹备工作在本部同学的共同协作努力下如期、顺利地进入比赛的预决赛，之后，为扩大活动的影响力度，增强比赛选手的积极性，提高活动的质量，我部又接连举行了两次预赛，在我部部领导、各班班主任的大力支持下，在学生会的各位干部的共同协作下，终于在大家的翘首期盼下于20xx年4月28日这天顺利拉开演讲比赛总决赛的帷幕。
整个比赛在主持人认真的主持下；在精彩的娱乐片段节目的点缀下；在选手激情的发挥下进行的非常顺利，经过激烈的角逐，最终产生了一、二、三等奖，特邀评委精彩的总结给这次的活动画上了圆满的句号。
这次比赛不仅锻炼了选手的能力，展示了他们的才华，更重要的是使得我们广大的同学受到了思想上的熏陶，并希望通过本次活动能在同学们的心中留下正确道德认识。
When I was still a freshman in college, one Scottish professor complained to me about being overcharged at a grocery store. He explained that many business owners in China would assume that white “foreigners” are rich and unable to understand Chinese. My amiable professor, unwilling to start a conflict, would always pay the undue price even though he was only meagerly paid by my university and was able to speak perfect Mandarin.
As a student of humanities, I’m particularly intrigued by the ramifications of cross-cultural encounters entailed by the new era. We have to bear in mind that whenever we talk about the new era, there is always an old era that keeps haunting us in various ways. Last year I went to the University of Tokyo for a one-year exchange program. Before I left, my grandma seemed quite distraught and apprehensive: she told me to take care of myself as if I was about to go to the battlefield.
But we Chinese are not the only ones infested by outdated misconceptions. When I was bidding farewell to my American professor at an academic writing class in Japan, she stopped me and asked me, “Are you really from China?” At first I thought she was pointing at my handsomeness, asking me whether I had been to Korea for plastic surgery. Well, clearly this is another stereotype that we should get rid of. But to my disappointment, she was actually referring to my English skills. “I’ve never met any Chinese student who can talk and write like you do,” She said, “You must have been stayed in the States for some time, haven’t you?” It does seem that even a specialist in linguistics can’t escape the illusion built up by the last generation of Chinese students: gauche and diffident, unable to articulate themselves in English.
Nevertheless, such stereotypes are becoming a thing of the past. When professors around the globe meet with an increasing number of students from China with both language proficiency and academic competence, well-qualified students will no longer be a surprise. Moreover, with more people going abroad and enjoying firsthand encounters with different cultures, people like my grandma will no longer be subject to the fossilized, antiquated narrative of the past. The interesting thing is, after I told my grandma my experiences in Japan, how clean, safe and beautiful their cities are and how nice, polite and considerate their people are, she gladly removed Japan from the list of least-want-to-visit foreign countries and put it instead to the most-want-to-visit one.
Even the shop owner near my campus is now repenting for his peccadillo. When gradually more international purchasers become his patrons, he would no longer treat them differently. And he would even occasionally call out for them, yelling “come, come,” “cheap, cheap,” “thanks thanks” with a very strong Chinese accent. Meanwhile, my Scottish professor has now equipped himself with Wechat and Alipay, assimilating seamlessly into the local life here.
The old era is like a cocoon, protecting us from possible dangers outside and providing us with warmth and comfort. However, an overreliance on memories and experiences of a long-gone past can also hinder us from genuine, meaningful interactions for the future, just as the cocoon can also serve as a wall to bar us from the beautiful world outside. But in order to make a brand-new attire or to build a modern silk road, we have to plunge the cocoons into hot water and obtain the silk despite the pain. So ladies and gentlemen, don’t be trapped by the old era. Transcend it, and embrace the new one.

As far as I’m concerned, I’m a sheer amateur of sports, being fascinated by swimming, running, mountaineering and so on. I couldn’t agree with these perspectives from people who dislike sports, because you’ll feel greatly relieved after being drenched in sweats by sports. Sports can also help you forget your worries and stress, feeling unprecedented relaxed.
As is known, a healthy body is extraordinarily crucial. Moreover physical exercise undeniably exerts a far-reaching influence on keeping ourselves fit. In taking part in out-door sports, we are closer to nature and can take in fresh air. The beauty of nature will keep us clear-headed, which is essential to our health. Besides sports can stimulate the circulation of blood and help to excrete the wastes in the body. It also can work up our appetite and activate or digestion. In a word, sports can give rise to a strong body for us.
In contemporary society, with the increasing focus on health, people in ever expanding numbers join the trend of doing sports and begin to accept more and more sorts of fashionable sports, ranging from hiking to diving. From this phenomenon, we can see not only do sports play a significant role in health, but also lay a solid foundation for human beings’ spirit.
Taking hiking for example, it’s a blend of man and nature completely way to travel, and also a kind of sports that not only need your physical strength, but also need the patience, perseverance and persistence. At the beginning of climbing a mountain, you’ll be exciting with the fantastic scene of mountain, river and water. However, after a half way, you’ll fell so tired and exhausted. The climbing road becomes more and more steep. At that time, it requires your persistence and determination to conquer arduous situations. It just likes the life, the closer the success is, the more difficulties you must endure.

as a young english teacher, i have to face different kinds of students and deal with trivial things every day. life goes on, but sometimes it’s becoming frustrating and i feel very tired. how to make my life become better? i’m always seeking for the answer. fortunately, when i read a magazine one day, i found the truth to make my life 100%. today i would like to share it with you.
now, my dear friends, let’s do an interesting test together and then you will find the secret by yourself! as we all know, there are 26 alphabets in english, a to z. against them we have the numbers 1% to 26%. if a is equal to 1%, and b to 2%, and so on, until z is equal to 26%, then can you guess what can make our life 100%? that is to say, what can make our life perfect?
some of you may suggest “money”。 however, after calculating, you’ll find it only comes to 72%. now try a few more. knowledge? yes, knowledge is power! but this time it only comes to 96%. how about love? that only shows at 54%. luck does even worse, only at 47%. though most of us think this is the most important.
then what makes 100%? hard work? closer, 98%. but not exact. now, what on earth can make life 100%? well, every problem has a solution, only if we perhaps change our attitude. yes! only attitude comes out at 100%.

I’m ten years old. I come from Huanxi Primary school. I’m in class 3, grade 5.As a happy boy，I have many hobbies, such as sports, playing piano, singing, and drawing.Among them, travel is my favorist one. I have visited some other cities, like Beijing, Hainan, chongqing, guangxi, Qindao, dalian and so on.Everywhere I went, I enjoyed the natural scenery and appreciated the human landscape very much.
Not only that, I want to go abroad to take in the beauty of the custom of other countries in the future.And I even dream about what the life will be when we are on planets other than our Earth.That is why I’m so interested in the following scientific report recently.
Cherish what we are enjoying.It is a report about the new planet which holds possibility for life.It shows that European astronomers have discovered a new planet, they name it gliese 581 c.It is about 20.5 light years from our earth. They estimated the planet's average temperature at between 0 and 40 degrees centigrade. It is orbiting the red dwarf star, gliese important of all, it’s an earth-like planet. There might be mountin, sea and liquid water.So the astronomers believe that it is potentially habitable.
However, gliese 581 c might be "tidally locked" to it’s sun-the dwarf star the way our moon is to the Earth.It means that it must always show its same face to its sun, and that while one side would be too fiercely hot to support life, the other side would be too cold.This report makes me to realize that how valuable our earth is.Everyday, we can see sunrise and sunset.The day and night keeps on exchanging. It’s not too hot in the daytime while not to cold at night.Everyday, I go to school cheerfully in the morning and skip along at the way home as the sun set.

i am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.
five score years ago, a great american, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the emancipation proclamation. this momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. it came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
but one hundred years later, the negro still is not free. one hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. one hundred years later, the negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. one hundred years later, the negro is still languished in the corners of american society and finds himself an exile in his own land. and so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.
in a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. when the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every american was to fall heir. this note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable rights" of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." it is obvious today that america has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. instead of honoring this sacred obligation, america has given the negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."
but we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. we refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. and so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.
we have also come to this hallowed spot to remind america of the fierce urgency of now. this is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. now is the time to make justice a reality for all of god's children.
it would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. this sweltering summer of the negro's legitimate discontent will not pauntil there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. and those who hope that the negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to busineas usual. and there will be neither rest nor tranquility in america until the negro is granted his citizenship rights. the whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.
but there is something that i must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: in the proceof gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterneand hatred. we must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. we must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.
the marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. and they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.
we cannot walk alone.
and as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.
we cannot turn back.
there are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "when will you be satisfied?" we can never be satisfied as long as the negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. we can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. we cannot be satisfied as long as a negro in mississippi cannot vote and a negro in new york believes he has nothing for which to vote. no, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until "justice rolls down like waters, and righteousnelike a mighty stream.

I am honour to stand here to deliver my speech my topic today is about future. As we all know, mans life is a process of growing up, actually Im standing here is a growth. If a persons life must constituted by various choices, then I grow up along with these choices. Once I hope I can study in a college in future, however thats passed, as you know I come here, now I wonder what the future holds for me.
When I come to this school, I told to myself: this my near future, all starts here. Following I will learn to become a man, a integrated man, who has a fine body, can take on important task, has independent thought, an open mind, intensive thought, has the ability to judge right and wrong, has a perfect job.
